Leadership & Service

For more than a decade, I’ve worked alongside neighbors to turn ideas into real results that strengthen Pleasant Hill. I earned the trust of Pleasant Hill voters as a twice elected Board Director for the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District where I helped guide decisions that shape our parks and public spaces; always listening closely to residents and making sure policies reflect both community priorities and real-world needs. 

You will find me out in the community year after year, from organizing intergenerational activities and volunteering in schools to delivering handmade gifts to seniors and leading outdoor education for students. I work side by side with families and neighbors to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and included. 

In my work as a physician, I have seen how much it matters when people feel informed and heard, which is why I have focused on training and mentoring future doctors, leading public education efforts, and securing funding to improve patient-centered care. I have worked to make complicated systems easier to understand and more humane to move through, ensuring people have clear information and real support when it matters most.

Fourth of July Parade

• Earned the trust of voters by being elected twice to the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District and served in leadership roles as Board Chair, Board Vice Chair, and Board Secretary helping guide decisions that shape our public spaces.

• Championed seniors through seven years on the Pleasant Hill Commission on Aging, including as Chair to advance Aging in Place policies and improving mobility so older residents can stay connected and independent.

• Built inclusive education opportunities as a founding member of the Family Advisory Board for 3 years at Center of Gravity Early Childhood Education, where I worked to expand access to STEAM learning for all children.

• Created community traditions by launching the Intergenerational Ice Cream Makerspace to bring families and seniors together year after year at Tinkers and Thinkers.

• Delivered inclusive parks by helping write the Play for All policy to bring accessible play equipment and programs to our parks.

• Activated underused spaces by supporting new amenities like the Rodgers-Smith Park restroom, partnering to bring a Bike Park, and helping transform park space through the Pleasant Hill Night Market.

• Protected open space as an elected member of Pleasant Hill Rec & Park, I defend the parks and natural areas that make up nearly 20% of District 4, working to preserve the character of our neighborhoods.

• Celebrated community diversity by sponsoring Black History Month booklets, providing Lunar New Year red envelopes to local families, and helping launch the World Fusion Festival.

• Awarded the City of Pleasant Hill’s Plaque of Appreciation for over 7 years of hands-on service on the Commission on Aging, where I worked to strengthen programs and support for our senior community.

Administering Oath of Office to Councilmember La

• Brought trusted health information directly to residents by presenting on behalf of the Pleasant Hill Commission on Aging, helping seniors and families make informed decisions about their care.

• Amplified community voices and city events by serving as a panelist at the City’s Asian American Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Town Hall and participating in Neighbor Nights—partnering with local commissions and students to bring real stories and lived experiences into public dialogue.

• Honored our seniors in action by authoring the official City proclamation for Older Americans Month, recognizing the contributions and needs of older residents.

• Invested in our library system as a lifetime member of the Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library, supporting literacy, access, and community programming.
